This is what happens when nerds marry

The Brians (Computer Science Department) said that I would have an answer to my proposal for a summer course by the end of last week.

I’m starting to get worried! But, they are the Brians, so maybe they mean by the beginning of next week.

I sure hope it’s approved, because otherwise I’ll have to go somewhere else for a half credit of computer science… and I’ve already done some of the work for this course.

Oh, and the PHP conference is almost sold out… I’m not sure if I’ll be going!

Today we are 100% officially moving out of Peterborough. I’m going to miss it!

So, yesterday I finished up a German essay, which was the last of my homework for the year, yay!!

Boy was yesterday hectic. I’d barely started the essay, we had a software demo at 9am with IT, and my mom emailed us in the am, telling us that the only day she could get a truck was that night!

Phew!

Anyway, we have almost everything moved to my mom’s house now, where we’ll be staying for the summer. I think that all that’s left is getting the vacuum and cleaning up a bit.

Now I have to get a summer job. I have a job interview on Tuesday, so wish me luck! I also submitted a proposal for a summer course about German automatic translation. If it gets approved, and then approved again, this might mean I can graduate! yay!

later days!

This is the last thing that I have to do to be finished my fourth year of university (not including my summer project). I am having a lot of trouble motivating myself to do it!

It is a lot of work. I have to write 10 pages praising the course, and 8 months worth of work logs. I’d much rather watch Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which is actually turning out to be pretty fun. It does remind me of the XKCD comic about the perfect movie: River Tam Beats Up Everyone.

(For those not in the know: River Tam is a character of the short-lived cult classic Firefly (one of the best TV shows EVER), played by Summer Glau, who also plays a butt-kicking android in the Terminator series.)

Did I mention that I hate worklogs?

Sorry, Zeth played his Good Morning Vietnam soundtrack again last night. The music is good, but seriously, I do not want to hear Robin Williams say in a munchkin voice, “We represent, The ARVN army, the ARVN army! Oh No! Follow the Ho-chih-minh Trail!” one more time! Robin Williams, Good Morning Vietnam!

Our software is due very soon. We have so much work to do! We have to write user manuals, fix all of our bugs, finish (IE rewrite) the 28-page Requirements Document, write our work logs, and a 10-page report critiquing the course.

In other news, I need another 400-level Computer Science credit in order to graduate. I’m told that I can create my own summer course, so that’s what I did! It’s called Advanced Web Programming, and it’s a project course. All summer I get to create the software that I was planning on creating this summer anyway - and I get a credit for it! The software is an Online Store website. More on that later (my proposal still has to get approved by the department head!)

I guess it’s time we let you know about our plans for this summer.

Zoe and I are going back home for the summer. That means that we can chill with family all summer! We plan on getting jobs there, our licenses, maybe a car (!), and visiting friends.

This means a few things.

  1. Gavin will never write a university exam ever again.
  2. We will be living in a house with four other people. BBQ!
  3. We will be going swimming a lot.
  4. Zeth is going to be the voice of Davis.
  5. We needs employment, fast.
  6. Gavin likes lists.

In other news, there is a PHP conference in Chicago that I really want to go to. It is a little pricey, but it looks like a lot of fun, and they offer PHP training so I can get my Zend Certification (extra cool). Zoe and I are brainstorming ways to raise funds to go. Let us know if you have any ideas! We need to raise like $3000 by May 20. Well, probably earlier, since the conference is on May 20. (EDIT: It’s okay! We’re going, and it won’t cost that much ;)

Last night we watched Calamari Wrestler with Sean and Lindsey. You think the movie is ridiculous, but you keep watching, and it just keeps getting ridiculouser and ridiculouser. I love it. And I love the surprise ending!  Calamari Wrestler Trailer

Last night we also determined that seagulls are REALLY creepy.

The seagulls took my sister. They took her. Where… Where did… they take here? The took her.

Well, that’s all for now. I’ve got to go pack up all of my worldly possessions…

Cheers

Gavin
