This was written for evangelism Sunday at VABC.
- Martha:
- Hi Joey!! It’s Sunday! Don’t you just love Sunday?!
- Joey:
- I guess so?
- Martha:
- It’s the start of a brand new week! So many things to look forward to! A new week at school! Singing lessons on Tuesday! Jenny is having a birthday party on Friday! It’s going to be a great week.
- Joey:
- It sounds like YOUR week is going to be great.
- Martha:
- What are you doing this week Joey?
- Joey:
- Nothing. Not going to comic book club, that’s for sure!
- Martha:
- You are in a comic book club? I didn’t even know there was a comic book club! Why didn’t you tell me?
- Joey:
- There is no comic book club, because no one else joined so it was canceled.
- Martha:
- Well why didn’t you tell me?! I love comic books! I would have joined for sure!
- Joey:
- You? I didn’t know you liked comic books…
- Martha:
- I love Archie comics. And Clark Kent is soooo dreamy. Who did you invite to go to comic club with you?
- Joey:
- Well — no one. I didn’t know anyone who would want to go.
- Martha:
- You didn’t ask anyone! How could you know if you didn’t ask? I wish you had asked me! Now I’m sad that I can’t go to comic book club. That would have made this week even BETTER!
- Joey:
- I didn’t even think to ask anybody.
- Martha:
- That’s just like CHURCH! If no one invites anyone to church, how will they know they are welcome?
- Joey:
- But everyone is welcome at church!
- Martha:
- But not everyone knows that, it’s our job to ask them if they want to come, just like comic book club.
- Joey:
- Oh no! Now I’m worried about church getting cancelled just like comic book club, then I won’t have anything at all to do this week!
- Martha:
- Well, church won’t be cancelled this week. But if we don’t invite people, maybe it will later! Besides, think of how fun it would be to have our friends with us in Sunday school.
- Joey:
- That would be great! And then maybe we could talk about comic books in Sunday school?
- Martha:
- Maybe you should ask if you can have one more try inviting people to comic book club before they cancel it. If you tell your friends, and I tell my friends, I’m sure we’ll have enough people!
- Joey:
- Yeah, who doesn’t like comic books?!
- Martha:
- Who doesn’t like Sunday school?
- Joey:
- Martha, I think that you just saved Sunday school - - I mean comic book club. Well, maybe both. Let’s go to Sunday school right now.
