I do have a problem with how some people (not just in the wiki) document their changes - regarding referencing lines of code. Writing that you changed Line 1165 might be useful, until the next changeset where someone adds 100 lines to the beginning of the file. No one is going to go through the wiki and update your 1165 to 1265, so there has to be a better way!

This is my suggestion, and I have been using it for a day or two.

Syntax:
/path/to/file/file.ext/function_name()/comment

For example:
/test/applied/2008-11-20-gb-001/theme/functions.php/get_username()/Check for errors

This obviously references the code in the function get_username() inside functions.php, near the comment //Check for errors. This way, the code can change shape all it wants, and the reference will stay current.

Martha:

What’s so great?

Joey:

Well, remember how I have trouble in history class?

Martha:

…that makes you happy?

Joey:

No, no, no. God answered my prayers!

Martha:

What does that have to do with history?

Joey:

Well, since I barely passed history last year, I’ve been praying every day since the start of the term that God would help me to pass this year.

Martha:

Every day? You never forgot?

Joey:

I never forgot! And what’s more, every time I prayed, I remembered that I had homework to do for history class. And then, last week we had our first big test.

Martha:

And… did you pass?

Joey:

I GOT AN A! I have never gotten an A in the history of history class.

Martha:

Wow, congratulations!

Joey:

Yep, I just had to wait, and after many many days of praying, eventually God answered my prayer, just in the nick of time - on the day of my test

Martha:

Why do you say that, Joey? It sounds to me like he answered your prayer right away.

Joey:

What do you mean? I didn’t get an A until I got my test back.

Martha:

Well, ever since the first day you prayed, you have never forgotten to study history. And THAT is what gets you an A in history.

Joey:

So, are you saying I didn’t have to pray, I just had to study?

Martha:

NOooo, It’s BECAUSE you prayed that you remembered to study. God answered your prayer by reminding you to study.

Joey:

Oh… so WHEN did God answer my prayer?

Martha:

As soon as you prayed - every single day - you just didn’t realize it until you got an A!

Joey:

Oh - that’s pretty cool.

Martha:

Ya - I think you studying for anything every single day is a miracle

Joey:

Heeey… You’re right! I’ve never done that before. God is an excellent study partner. That reminds me - I have to go clean my room!

*Joey leaves*

Martha (to audience):

Heheh, Joey doesn’t even realize that now God is answering his Mom’s prayer.

Joey (out of sight):

I heard that!

*Martha leaves*

But, you say, sandwiches are for lunch! Yes, we know that– How are you going to be satisfied by a sandwich for supper!? Hey. There’s no need to interrupt. You’ll understand once you see the pictures.

Ingredients (top to bottom)

• Top half of cheese bun
• Honey Mustard
• A slice of Monteray Jack cheese with Jalapenos
• A slice of salami
• Thinly sliced sauteed vidalia onions
• Two strips of bacon
• Sliced green olives
• A few slices of Montreal smoked meat
• Thickly tomato slices
• Another slice of salami
• Romane lettuce
• Mayonaise
• Bottom half of cheese bun

This sandwich is not for the faint-of-heart. It takes real commitment to pick up a sandwich like this.

The sandwich looked lonely on the plate, so it came with some macaroni friends.

Now that’s a supper sandwich.

Apparently the footage that was broadcast (check it out) had something go wrong with the processing, and the video that everyone saw was not nearly as clear as it should have been!

A couple years ago, the original people who worked on the technology (retired now, of course) saw some old stills that showed how clear the raw footage was and wanted to get the originals and take another swing at it. Only NASA couldn’t find the tapes. Apparently the NASA filing system isn’t particularly strict. There are no proper databases, only the flimsiest of paper trails - which get dropped behind shelves.

In fact, an office can sign material out of storage, keep it for a few years and then decide to destroy it themselves and never let the place they borrowed it from know!

It doesn’t help that the time period was during the cold war, so they kept limited records of everything to keep them ‘out of the wrong hands.’ Or apparently, any hands.
