This is what happens when nerds marry

Performed at Victoria Avenue Baptist Church on Sunday July 6, 2008
Inspired by Acts 5:12-16

Joey:
Hi Martha, what are you doing?

Martha:
Oh, I’m just thinking about shadows.

Joey:
I know some things about shadows! Did you know that even though worms don’t even have eyes, they know when a shadow passes over them, and they get back underground as fast as they can, because it might be a bird coming to eat them?

Martha:
Wow, that’s cool. I wonder how they could know that…

Joey:
And the earth has a giant shadow! When the earth’s shadow passes over the moon, that’s when we get a lunar eclipse. And when the moon’s shadow falls on the earth, it’s a solar eclipse!

Martha:
Those shadows would be so HUGE! And Joey, in Peter Pan, Peter loses his shadow, and that’s how he meets his true love Wendy!

Joey:
Uh… er… oh! One time I was watching the X-files, and a man has a black hole as his shadow and it made people disappear forever!

Martha:
That’s not very romantic…

Joey:
People ask me if I’m worried about being in my big brother’s shadow, but I don’t think that his is a black hole. Why were you thinking about shadows anyway?

Martha:
I was reading in Acts, that the new believer’s were bringing sick people to see Peter, and that they didn’t even want him to lay hands on them or anything, they would just lay in the street where his shadow would fall because they thought that his shadow could heal them.

Joey:
Wow, that is a powerful shadow! Way better than a black hole!

Martha:
You know Joey - With the exception of the X-files and maybe Peter Pan, God is in all the shadows. He created the sun, the moon and earth, - made the eclipse, and he loves all of us. He even loves the worms and created shadows so that they could be protected. God loves us so much that he even heals us when we are sick. We don’t have to wait for a shadow to pass over us when we’re sick - God is everywhere, and miracles happen every day when we believe in Him.

Joey:
I am so glad that God is everywhere. Let’s go investigate the shadows that our refrigerator door leaves on the floor when we have snack time.
