- Joey:
- Martha, what do you want to be when you grow up?
- Martha:
- I want to be just like Pastor Miriam.
- Joey:
- My friend Johnny wants to be an astronaut.
- Martha:
- Wow, that sounds like fun! And hard work too!
- Joey:
- And Phil wants to be a doctor. Tommy wants to be a fireman.
- Martha:
- Ooh, saving lives. That’s a lot of responsibility!
- Joey:
- Jesse said that she just loves her paper route, and she doesn’t mind if she can do it forever! And Eugene wants to be a computer programmer. Just like his mom.
- Martha:
- Oh…. That’s… interesting… I guess….
- Joey:
- Martha… I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO BE!
- Martha:
- Well, you don’t have to decide now…
- Joey:
- But everyone else knows! I don’t have a guess! What if I never find out what to be when I grow up?
- Martha:
- Remember that in the bible it says that God has a plan for you? Plans that help you to succeed, and not to hurt you? God wants to give you hope and a future.
- Joey:
- Well, I HOPE I have a future!
- Martha:
- You DO have a future! That’s what’s so great about it. If you do your very best, and always look to God for direction, things will turn out great. Even when you don’t know how - like right now. Just because you don’t know what you are going to do when you grow up, doesn’t mean that God isn’t already helping you, you just can’t see it!
- Joey:
- Well - do you think maybe God will give me a clue?
- Martha:
- I don’t know Joey, you’ll have to ask him! Sometimes he does - but sometimes part of his plan is letting you figure it out as you get older.
- Joey:
- So, I don’t have to worry?
- Martha:
- Jesus said worrying isn’t good for anything!
- Joey:
- Maybe I can be a cookie taste tester.
- Martha:
- If you want to do that, you’d better start practicing now!
- Joey:
- OK, Let’s go!
